Ty Ferrell, Farmer Wants a Wife Season 2's oldest bachelor, found himself choosing between two very different women in the finale: loud New Yorker Melody and reserved schoolteacher Megan. The fact that he was left with such polar opposite candidates was arguably a red flag. What was the 42-year-old single father looking for in a partner? What sort of "bonus mom" did he want for his 12-year-old daughter, Lennon?

Heading into the episode it seemed like he might go with the logical choice, Megan, but, really, it was anyone's guess. Keep reading to find out what happened.

No one! In a plot twist that seemed reserved for Farmer Brandon, Farmer Ty chose to end his relationship with both women.

Who does Ty eliminate in the Farmer Wants a Wife Season 2 finale?

Ty sent both of his final two ladies packing. Here's how things went down with each.

Melody

Occupation: Nurse
Location: Yonkers, NY

After reiterating his attraction to Melody and praising her for bringing an energy to the farm that no woman ever had before, he admitted that his trip to New York brought up concerns about their compatibility—he wasn't convinced she could wholeheartedly enjoy life in Sikeston, Missouri.

“For us to move forward, I shouldn’t have any concerns," he concluded. "It’s a hard thing to do but it’s the right thing to do."

In some ways, his decision was reflective of his maturity. Ty wanted to find his "forever person," his gut was telling him that Melody wasn't it, and grownups listen to their gut. But it also begged the question, "Why invite a woman from Yonkers to come to your farm in the first place?" Sure, it was good that he kept an open mind. But if certainty was what he was after, he couldn't possibly believe he was going to find that in a month's time with a woman from New York (or Chicago or Boston or any big metropolis, for that matter).

For her part, Melody said she wasn't expecting Ty to end things but that she understood. "We’re from completely different worlds," she said. "Bye, cowboy.”

Megan

Location: Nashville, Tennessee

Ty first blamed his decision to end things with Megan on the fact that he doesn't want to have more kids. "There’s part of me that thought coming into [this experience] that I was open to children, but for me to be honest, I’ve learned through it that I’m not 100 percent there," he said. "For me, knowing that I don’t want to have kids, I don’t think I should be in a place where I should keep you from having them."

But then he added a secondary explanation for the split, and it was arguably more hurtful to Megan because it questioned the quality of their connection. "For me, it’s a strong connection but it’s been a connection that’s been a friendship connection."

Megan was shocked and "completely blindsided" by the comment. "We’ve communicated that we have a strong connection and I’ve always asked for reassurance and you’ve given me that," she said. "That’s where I’m confused."

That's where we're all confused. What's Ty's problem? Ultimately, it seems like he just doesn't know what he wants out of a relationship. He's figuring out what he doesn't want out of one, and there's value to that. But there's also collateral damage, and this time around, sweet Megan was it. She cried more than any of the eliminated women (and Brandon) put together, and it was hard to watch.

"I feel like I’m still not good enough," she said. "Because he said such good things about me and was attracted to me and liked my personality, but it wasn’t enough."

It will be interesting to see them hash things out during next week's reunion episode.
