Will red carpets ever return? Celeb stylist Brad Goreski weighs in: 'Read the room'

Brad Goreski has faith that red carpet events will return in the future, despite being abandoned amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Hollywood is just one of the countless industries that was upended in 2020, with production and promotion and all of the surrounding events almost completely halted for months. While film and TV production appears to be ramping up in various capacities around the country, promotion of new projects has remained largely virtual.

For Goreski, who counts the likes of Jenna Dewan and Kaley Cuoco as clients, the upcoming Emmy Awards represent an opportunity to embrace the current moment, as he predicts that things will eventually go back to normal.

“Right now, designers have been reaching out and asking me if they can dress my clients who have Emmy nominations, and I think it’s also a moment to read the room a little bit,” he told ITK during an interview promoting Galderma’s Face Up To Rosacea campaign. “If I were an actor, I would probably like the idea of being able to be at home and in something comfortable and accepting my award maybe that way, as opposed to sitting in my living room in a ball gown.”

“If that’s your thing, then that’s great. But for me, I think right now that’s the direction I would maybe push my clients,” Goreski added. “I think the red carpet will be back.”

“Once we learn how to deal with COVID and whatever the future holds for medications and treatments and stuff like that for it, I do think the world will go back, and I do think that red carpets will open again,” he went on. “I think people will want that fantasy again. Again, I still think we’re gonna have to read the room and test the temperature like we would with a recession or with things that are happening in the world. But I do think things will bounce back eventually.”

It’s also worth noting that, even without active red carpet events, celebrities are still participating in socially distanced photo shoots and virtual press tours, meaning that there are still styling opportunities for Goreski and other celebrity stylists in the industry.

“More of my colleagues are also doing a little bit more work now that people are doing virtual press tours and talk show appearances and things like that,” Goreski told In The Know. “Also, with people participating in the conventions and stuff, there’s a little bit more of a desire for stylists to step in.”

“I did my first photo shoot since February about two weeks ago, and that was my actual first job working,” he went on. “So yeah, it’s a whole new landscape. I’m not sure what the red carpet looks like [in the future].”
