Over the weekend, it was reported that eight teams are in on Washington Nationals ace Max Scherzer. The Los Angeles Dodgers are one of those eight teams, but they’re not just interested in Scherzer.

According to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic, the Dodgers also have interest in Nationals reliever Daniel Hudson.

“In addition to Max Scherzer, the Dodgers have interest in Nationals reliever Daniel Hudson, sources tell The Athletic,” Rosenthal said. “A bigger deal would appear possible, but obviously nothing is close with Scherzer starting today in D.C.”

Hudson, 34, has been very sharp for the Nationals this season. In 31 appearances, Hudson has a 4-1 record with a 2.20 ERA and 48 strikeouts. Scherzer, meanwhile, has a 7-4 record with a 2.83 ERA and 142 strikeouts.

Scherzer is easily the best player available heading into Friday’s trade deadline. More than half of the NL West is being linked to him since the division race is so tight.

Even if the Dodgers miss out on Scherzer, they could acquire Hudson to fortify their bullpen. Of course, the fan base in Los Angeles wants the front office to pull off a blockbuster deal that involves both Hudson and Scherzer.

The Dodgers are just two games back of the Giants for first place in the NL West. They’ll be buyers heading into this Friday’s trade deadline.
