A crash in Florida resulted in a Dodge Challenger submerged at the bottom of a canal. The driver of the Dodge appears to have been racing a Mercedes when they lost control. The incredible scene was captured on a security camera video that was posted on the NBC2 News YouTube channel.

The driver was speeding down a residential street and failed to negotiate a sharp turn. They had nowhere to go except straight over a berm that launched the car into the air. After a brief flight, the challenger landed in a canal that runs between two homes. The airbags deployed upon impact and the Challenger bobbed along in the canal for a minute or two.

A number of witnesses came upon the scene and one good Samaritan eventually jumped into the canal and helped free the driver. Just moments after the driver was pulled free, the Challenger sank to the bottom of the canal. Its racing days are over.

Thankfully no one seems to have suffered any major injuries. A child was in the backyard of the home as the Challenger shot passed only a few feet away. This could have easily ended up as a much more tragic story. Hopefully this driver now understands why racing is best done on a real track and not through neighborhood streets.
