Documentary film about mother's Holocaust experience to screen at MU's Wrench Auditorium

A son's documentary film about his mother's experiences during the Holocaust will be screened at 7 p.m. Thursday in Wrench Auditorium in Memorial Union at the University of Missouri.

The screening of "Prisoner of Her Past" is free and open to the public because of support from Congregation Beth Shalom, the Jonathan B. Murray Center for Documentary Journalism and the Mizzou Hillel Jewish Student Organization.

Filmmaker Howard Reich will be there and a discussion and Q&A led by Rabbi Matt Derrenbacher will follow the film.

The film is a personal story inspired by Reich's memoir as he retraced his mother's steps to uncover and understand her life during the Holocaust. The journey took him to the United States, Poland and Ukraine.

The film also explores post-traumatic stress disorder and the importance of psychiatric awareness for trauma victims.

The film is part of Holocaust Remembrance Month.
