Doctor Who has added another huge name to its cast, with Mindhunter's Jonathan Groff set to join the ensemble.

The actor has come on board in an undisclosed guest role, and will no doubt cross paths with Ncuti Gatwa's incoming Fifteenth Doctor.

“I am so thrilled to jump into the extraordinary mind of Russell T Davies and watch the incredible Ncuti Gatwa soar in this iconic role!” Groff said.

Showrunner Davies added: “This is an incredible coup, and a great honour, to get such a huge star striding on to our set. So strap on your space boots, this is going to be a blast!”

Alongside Gatwa and Groff, the next series of the show will be welcoming Coronation Street's Millie Gibson as companion Ruby Sunday and Drag Race's Jinkx Monsoon as a villain.

EastEnders' Anita Dobson, It's a Sin's Michelle Greenidge, The Split's Millie Kent and Taboo's Sophie Ablett have also joined the cast.

Speaking recently about her role, Jinkx teased: "I’m terribly excited. It’s not easy to encapsulate how excited I am with words. I was saying to the director yesterday, the role that I’m playing, it’s like everything I ever dreamed about doing as an actor in one character.

“It’s insane. It’s like all of my actor fantasies have been rolled into one character, and now I get to do it all on a show that I love, written by a prolific writer, a voice of our generation who has written so many astounding things.”

Before the new series, the show will air three specials later this year to mark Doctor Who's 60th anniversary, with David Tennant returning to play the Doctor.

Doctor Who returns later in 2023 on BBC One in the UK and Disney+ elsewhere. Meanwhile, in the US, the show airs on BBC America, with series 1-12 available on HBO Max. Classic Doctor Who streams on Britbox in the UK.
