DK Metcalf out for Seahawks, knee injury early at Chargers; Dee Eskridge hurt, returns
About the only thing that could end the Seahawks’ vibe of an early 17-point lead on the road?
An injury to DK Metcalf.
Seattle’s $70 million wide receiver left the team’s game at the Los Angeles Chargers early in the second quarter while on the back of a motorized cart. The team announced a few minutes later he had injured his knee and was out for the remainder of the game.
Metcalf had a towel draped over his head with his legs extended across the back of a flat-bed card as he was driven from the Seahawks’ sideline to the locker room.
He appeared to have been injured attempting to make a leaping catch near the goal line on the sideline boundary of a Geno Smith pass late in the first quarter of a 14-0 game. The pass was incomplete. Metcalf was not on the field for the next play, a third down on which the Chargers sacked Smith.
Seattle’s Jason Myers kicked a field goal on the next snap to increase the Seahawks’ lead to 17-0.
On the Seahawks’ next offensive possession following Metcalf’s injury, wide receiver Dee Eskridge got injured while fumbling a pitch from Smith. He was down for a moment and needed help to the sideline.
Eskridge returned as the returner for the kickoff after the Chargers’ second consecutive touchdown made it a 17-14 game. He let the kick bound through the end zone for a touchback.
