How to Make a DIY Laundry Basket Strawberry Planter for Summer

Spring and summer are perfect seasons for starting a garden, but trying to maintain all your plants can be overwhelming if you’re not careful. That goes for gardening pros and gardening beginners! So what can we do to make our lives easier and our gardens fruitful?

Well, if you’re a strawberry lover who wants a harvest of the delicious fruit all to yourself, listen up. This ingenious DIY laundry basket strawberry planter is exactly what you need this summer.

How to Make Your Laundry Basket Strawberry Planter

There are a few key components that you’ll need:

  • a tall laundry basket

  • garbage bags

  • dirt

  • 2-inch PVC pipe

  • strawberry plants

The greatest thing about this hack is the laundry basket—all you need to do is go to your local dollar store and pick up a cheap one with big holes down either side. Using this kind of basket allows the strawberry plants to grow through the holes for easy harvest. (It also means no more bending over—and no more back pain.)

First, line your laundry basket with the garbage bags. Take the 2-inch PVC pipe, drill some holes through the sides and place the pipe directly into the middle of the dirt for easy watering access. Then, fill the laundry basket with soil.

To insert your strawberry plants, take a garden knife and make incisions around the laundry basket. Start from the bottom and work your way up to the top, skipping a few holes to keep everything from becoming too crowded.
