Disturbing video shows Florida cop slamming student to ground, knocking her head onto pavement

A Florida school resource officer is under investigation after videos shared on social media Tuesday showed him body-slamming a teenager to the ground as she appeared to lose consciousness in front of horrified students.

The disturbing footage did not capture what led to the incident, but an 11-second viral clip shows the officer throwing the student to the ground in an outdoor area of the Osceola County school, causing an audible thump as she seemed to go limp.

“What the f--k is wrong with you?” a fellow student was heard yelling at the officer in a video recorded from a different angle.

“Oh my God,” another teen said in disbelief as the officer handcuffed the student behind her back.

The Osceola County Sheriff’s Office confirmed late Tuesday that the officer in the footage is a member of the agency. Officials said the investigation was “in the initial stages,” but they said the officer was “trying to stop the student from fighting another student in the hallway” before taking her into custody.

The shocking incident happened at Liberty High School in the city of Kissimmee, just south of Orlando. A sheriff’s office spokeswoman told the Orlando Sentinel that authorities were informed about the footage after school officials forwarded the videos to the agency.

The student’s condition and possible charges against her were not immediately known Wednesday.

The videos triggered accusations of police brutality and racism on social media as they showed police using force against a Black person, a disturbingly common scene across the U.S. that has fueled massive protests in recent months.

“The BRUTALITY of an @OsceolaSheriff deputy body-slamming a student at Liberty HS in Kissimmee FL, hit so hard on concrete she likely lost consciousness!” renowned civil rights attorney Ben Crump said in a tweet Wednesday.

“This was NOT a ‘minimal amount of force necessary’ as dictated by the Dept’s use of force policy!” he wrote. “We must demand justice!”

The sheriff’s office said it was collecting video, witness statement and other relevant information as part of the investigation.

“Once we receive more information related to the incident, we will provide an updated press release,” authorities said in a statement.

The officer’s identity has not been released.
