District champs headline vote for Jackson area girls athlete of the week for May 6-11

The TSSAA playoffs are moving along in the Jackson area.

Softball regionals are set for Monday and Wednesday while sectionals are scheduled for Friday after an exciting week of district championships.

Let’s look back at the last week in the Jackson area and vote for the athlete of the week.

Congratulations to Madison Oatsvall of Camden softball, who earned 374 of 1,016 votes (38.8%).

Fans are able to vote once per hour, the poll closes at 5 p.m., Thursday.

Here are this week’s nominees for Jackson area girls athlete of the week.

Isabella Lax, Bolivar softball: Lax knocked around five hits, including a double, and drove in three runs in the Tigers’ 15-5 win over Haywood to set up a regional semifinal game against Dyer County on Monday.

Keely Williams, Bruceton softball: Williams knocked around four hits with four RBIs and scored three runs in two wins over Houston County. Williams had three hits and three RBIs while scoring twice in Monday’s game to earn the right to host Perry County on Monday in the regional semifinals.

Maddie Claire Wilkerson, Dyer County softball: Wilkerson drove in two runs with a double to lead Dyer County to an 11-5 win over Crockett County and earn a regional semifinal spot against Bolivar.

Emily Porter, Gibson County softball: Porter hit a two-run home run in the sixth inning in the first game of Monday’s district championship series to upset Westview, 4-3.

Neely Barrier, Hardin County softball: Barrier hit a three-run home run to lift the Tigers to a wild 13-10 win over South Side in the District 12-3A tournament.

Karly Young, Haywood softball: Young knocked around three doubles as part of a five-hit, three-RBI game against Fayette Ware.

Natalie Krueziger, Huntingdon softball: Krueziger totaled 38 strikeouts across three wins for the Fillies, including 16 on Thursday against Waverly and 15 against Camden on Tuesday. Huntingdon won the District 12-2A tournament and hosts Harpeth in the regional semifinals on Monday.

McKensi Hays, Lake County softball: Hays had four RBIs in a 13-6 win over Gleason on Monday and picked up the complete-game win in the circle with three strikeouts.

Kailyn Melton, Lexington softball: Melton won all three games for the Tigers in the District 12-3A tournament, throwing every inning along the way. She totaled 16 strikeouts in those three games. Lexington hosts Fairview in the regional semifinals on Monday.

Bailee Shelton, McNairy softball: Shelton struck out 13 batters in a 10-8 win over Hardin County on Monday to put the Bobcats in the District 12-3A title game, losing to Lexington. The Bobcats travel to Creek Wood for the regional semifinals on Monday.

Kylie Frost, Riverside softball: Frost totaled five hits and four RBIs to vault the Panthers to a District 13-2A championship and host Gibson County in the regional semifinals on Monday. Frost had four hits, including two doubles, and three RBIs in the district semifinals against Scotts Hill.

Katie Harper, Scotts Hill softball: Harper struck out 14 batters in two appearances, including 10 against Adamsville on Wednesday, to put the Lions in the region tournament at Westview on Monday.

Hallie Allen, South Gibson softball: Allen knocked around three hits, including two doubles, and a RBI in the Hornets’ 11-6 win over Dyer County on Tuesday to win District 13-3A and host Haywood in the regional semifinals on Monday.

Mycah Mays, South Side softball: Mays totaled six hits and five RBIs in three games for the Hawks, including a three-hit, two RBI performance with a home run in the season-ending loss to Hardin County.

Taylar Shands, USJ softball: Shands totaled four RBIs to help propel the Bruins into the state quarterfinals in which they’ll host the winner of Boyd Buchanan and Friendship Christian.

Marlee Theobald, Union City softball: Theobald totaled four hits, including two doubles, and four RBIs while scoring twice as the Golden Tornadoes upset Dresden in the District 14-1A tournament to qualify for regionals on Monday at Halls.

McCall Sims, Westview softball: Sims totaled 22 strikeouts along with three hits, including a triple, and three runs to win the District 14-2A title over Gibson County and ghost Scotts Hill in the regional semifinals on Monday.
