Discovery+ Announces First Price Hike, Effective Immediately

It now costs a bit more to stream Dr. Pimple Popper doing her thing.

Warner Bros. Discovery announced on Tuesday morning that, effective today (Oct. 3), the price of a new, ad-free subscription to Discovery+ in the U.S. will increase from $6.99 to $8.99 per month (plus applicable taxes).

The streaming hub’s “ad-lite” subscription tier, however, will not change and instead remain a lean $4.99/month.

This marks the first time that Discovery+ has increased the price of a monthly subscription in the U.S. and Canada markets since its launch in January 2021.

In Canada, the price of a new, ad-free subscription to Discovery+ will increase from $6.99 CAD to $8.99 CAD, while the price of the “ad-lite” subscription plan will also inch (centimeter?) up, from $4.99 CAD to $5.99 CAD.

Existing subscribers will see their monthly rate increase on their next billing cycle on or after Nov. 2.

Of course, Discovery content also can be streamed as part of Warner Bros. Discovery’s Max service, which back in May added a “Discovery” tab in the course of rebranding away from its original HBO Max moniker. Max now streams ad-free for $15.99/month.

Discovery+ is a streaming home of series such as Mythbusters, Deadliest Catch, Expedition X, Naked and Afraid, Gold Rush and Dirty Jobs, to name only a few. Only a few.
