Did Levittown's Ricky Moyer make the Hollywood cut on 'American Idol'?

After surviving the biggest cut in “American Idol” history, Levittown musician Ricky Moyer moves on to Monday night’s showstoppers round.

“This Hollywood week is brutal,” Lionel Ritchie told the selected contestants. “We’ve never cut this many people. You get one shot and one shot only.”

To kick off Hollywood week, Sunday night’s episode featured contestants performing in the Idol Arena, as 143 hopefuls were whittled down to 56, including the three platinum ticket winners — Abi Carter, Julia Gagnon, and Odell Bunton, Jr. — who opened the episode with a rendition of Sia’s “California Dreamin’”.

Moyer, who graduated from Neshaminy in 2019, said his love of music started in middle school where he performed in musicals. But it wasn’t until his sophomore year in high school, when Moyer sat down in front of a piano and started singing, that his passion for becoming a musician came alive.

He has since received his bachelor’s degree in music from Baldwin Wallace University’s Conservatory of Performing Arts in Ohio; and more recently, Moyer has been working on writing original songs in hopes of releasing his first E.P.

His American Idol journey began last May, but just aired last week.

Moyer had been at a crossroads between music and a career in theater, when he decided to apply for the show.

For his audition, he played the piano and sang "It Must Have Been Love" from Roxette to impress the judges, who all gave him a standing ovation.

"You gave us moment, after moment, after moment," said Katy Perry. "I'm just so excited to hear the stories that you sing because I'm locked in with you."

“I’m so grateful for this experience,” he told the Courier Times before his audition episode aired.

“And it’s been lifechanging, getting to see the judges, getting to meet all these people and really finding myself as an artist.”
