BROCKTON — Newly released census data shows how populations in cities and towns near Brockton have changed since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Population Estimates Program at the U.S. Census Bureau recently published its estimates of total resident populations for all cities and towns between the years 2020 and 2023.

Data for 18 cities and towns in the Brockton area shows that the divide between the gain and loss of populations within these places was almost even.

From July 1, 2020, to July 1, 2023, 10 cities and towns lost population while eight cities and towns gained population.

Here’s how much populations increased or decreased from 2020 to 2023 in the Brockton area.

Abington

17,053 in 2020 to 16,970 in 2023 (.48% decrease)

Avon

4,772 in 2020 to 4,725 in 2023 (.98% decrease)

Bridgewater

28,510 in 2020 to 28,818 in 2023 (1.08% increase)

Brockton
