ASHWAUBENON - A plan to build a Cambria Hotel in the 2100 block of South Oneida Street is on hold now while the property owner reassesses their options.

Gridiron Entities, a partnership between Acts 1:8 Ministry and JCap Real Estate Development, in August applied to demolish the existing commercial buildings to build a five-story, 100-unit hotel on 2.8 acres owned by Acts 1:8 Ministry.

The group hoped to complete the hotel in time to welcome visitors to the 2025 NFL draft one year from now, but right away encountered neighbors' concerns about the original building's five-story height. The developers revised the site plan down to a four-story building in fall before the Ashwaubenon Village Board approved the project plans in late November.

A revised rendering of the 100-unit Cambria Hotel proposed for the 2100 block of South Oneida Street in Ashwaubenon. Developers reduced the proposed hotel from five stories to four and changed the building's shape.

Five months later, Asheville Square, the commercial strip center that makes up the bulk of the property, is for sale and no option is off the table, said Jeff Van Beaver, of Acts 1:8 Ministry, on Tuesday.

"We’re not sure of anything. We’re keeping everything open and we’re open to talking to people about it," Van Beaver said.

Aaron Schuette, the village's director of Community Development, said nothing has changed from the village's perspective, but no permits have been pulled either. Gridiron Entities' site plan approval to build a 100-unit hotel does not expire until Nov. 28, 2024, he said.

"No one has come forward to us to say the project is done," Schuette said.

Van Beaver said he is not sure yet whether JCap will stay involved with developing the site, but he said anyone interested can call him at 920-366-4339 to discuss the site.
