Game notes: For the second straight day, the Tigers and Mets had their game washed out by rain, pushing the starting pitchers back another day. It further delays the return of Mize, the former No. 1 overall pick who missed all of last season with injuries. He successfully emerged from spring training winning one of the last spots in the rotation. Mize was 3-1 with a 2.21 ERA and a 1.03 WHIP over 20⅓ innings in Florida.

CARLOS MONARREZ: Early review of Jason Benetti: Fun, fair and not too much of a TV homer

The rainouts also create a chance for Matt Manning, who was passed over for the Tigers rotation to start the season and sent to Triple-A. He's getting the callup as the 27th player for the doubleheader and is scheduled to start the second game today. Manning was 1-0 with a 3.38 ERA and a 0.94 WHIP in five starts and 16 innings this spring. He battled the injury bug a bit last season and, if there's an injury in the rotation this season, will almost undoubtedly be the first man to get the call from Toledo.
