BOLD MOVE: Why Red Wings re-signing Patrick Kane should be a no-brainer

Game notes: The Detroit Red Wings have to take care of their own business to sneak into the NHL playoffs, but we're officially into scoreboard-watching season. The Wings find themselves needing help from the Washington Capitals and potentially the Pittsburgh Penguins after losing to both teams in the last week.

However, with an incredibly clutch goal by the Red Wings on Saturday night to beat the Toronto Maple Leafs in overtime, they are still very much in the mix for a wild card spot with just two games to play. All three teams will be in action at 7 p.m. Monday night, with the Wings facing the Canadiens, the Caps playing the Boston Bruins and the Penguins taking on the Nashville Predators.

The best thing about those matchups for the Wings is the Capitals will be playing the Atlantic Division-leading Bruins, who are still looking to lock up the top seed in the division and have a chance to get the No. 1 seed in the East, but will need some help from the New York Rangers. So in other words, the Bruins will have something to play for when taking on the Capitals, which is not a guarantee this time of the year.

Meanwhile, the Red Wings will face the Canadiens, who are in last place in the Metropolitan Division, but have been playing some decent hockey lately and are 7-8-5 since March 1, despite losing five of their last six games. The Canadiens really don't have too much to play for, but like Dylan Larkin said to the media after the win over Toronto, sometimes a team with nothing to lose can be very scary.

If the Wings can't get at least a point against Montreal on Monday, they'll be eliminated from the playoffs because they don't hold the tiebreaker over either the Capitals or Penguins.

After Monday's game in Detroit, the Wings will fly to Montreal to face the Canadiens again Tuesday for the final game of the season.
