Detroit offers free health screenings, CPR training for public health week

Detroit is offering free health screenings to residents all week as the city takes part in Public Health Week.

The Detroit Health Department is collaborating with Detroit Police Department precincts, recreation centers and community members to host Public Health Week, which includes a variety of screenings and classes. Last year, the department hosted a similar event offering screenings and vaccines.

This year's event includes: checking blood pressure, glucose, cholesterol and kidney function, HIV and syphilis testing, fitness classes, CPR training, Narcan training and kit distribution, Mental Health Makeovers and Massages, lead screenings, and Cuts and Conversations, a men's panel discussion.

Screenings and events will be at these locations:

  • Wednesday, April 3, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., senior health and wellness at St. Pat's Senior Center, 58 Parsons St.

  • Thursday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., health and wellness at Patton Recreation Center, 2301 Woodmere St. From 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., iDecide Teen Open House at Detroit Health Department, 100 Mack Ave.

  • Friday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Justice Walk at 2875 W. Grand Blvd.

  • Saturday from noon to 2 p.m., Cuts and Conversations at Heilmann Recreation Center and Ford Resource, 15491 Maddelein St.

  • Saturday from noon to 2 p.m., Center, Mental Health Makeover and Massages, 15491 Maddelein St.

  • Saturday from 2:30 p.m. to 5 p.m., Dads and Sons Basketball Challenge, 15491 Maddelein St.
