The Detroit Lions are keeping their backup quarterback in-house, according to NFL.com’s Mike Garafolo.

The Lions have reportedly agreed to bring back Tim Boyle on a one-year, $2 million deal worth $1.75 million guaranteed. There’s also an additional $500,000 that can be had via incentives.

Boyle signed a one-year contract with Detroit last season as well. After which, he appeared in five games for Dan Campbell’s Lions, including three starts in place of Jared Goff.

In those games, the Connecticut-born QB completed 65 percent of his passes for 526 yards, three touchdowns and six interceptions. Finishing the season with a 63.5 passer rating.

Boyle spent the first three seasons of his career backing up Aaron Rodgers in Green Bay, after going undrafted out of UConn. Over that span the 27-year-old saw snaps in 11 games.

As it stands, Goff remains QB1 for the Lions heading into the 2022 season. But with a high pick in the draft, it’s not out of the realm of possibility that Detroit chooses to grab a quarterback.

However, it’s more likely that Campbell and the Lions draft a pass rusher, or trade out of the pick altogether to get more bites at the apple.
