With the Super Bowl today, all eyes are on Rihanna and her epic halftime show debut. Jay-Z, who has partnered with the NFL when it comes to the big show, mused, “Rihanna is a generational talent, a woman of humble beginnings who has surpassed expectations at every turn…a person born on the small island of Barbados who became one of the most prominent artists ever. Self-made in business and entertainment.” The organization’s head of music, Seth Dudowsky, also chimed in and said, “Rihanna is a once-in-a-generation artist who has been a cultural force throughout her career.” Couldn’t have said it any better myself!

When is the 2023 Super Bowl halftime show?

Good Q! The Super Bowl Rihanna’s highly anticipated (!!!) comeback concert is today, Sunday, February 12, at the State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona. The halftime show will start after the first half of the Eagles-Chiefs game, likely around ~7:30 p.m. or 8 p.m. ET. Excited. Is. An. Understatement.

How can I watch the halftime show?

The Super Bowl changes network homes often, and this year, it’ll air on FOX. Those of you who have cable can easily tune in, but for those who don’t have cable (same, lol), you can still watch via live TV subscriptions to streamers like Hulu, FuboTV, and YouTube TV.

What can we expect from Rihanna’s halftime performance?

We got some intel straight from the singer herself! When asked by Entertainment Tonight back in November 2022 about her plans for the show, Rihanna revealed she wanted to “incorporate a lot of culture.” “I want to incorporate different aspects of entertainment and things that I just enjoy and bring it to the stage.…I want to celebrate the music that I’ve made,” she said.

And just last month, an insider told Hollywood Life that the Fenty Beauty founder even plans on bringing her son along to watch the show…but not from the stage, obvi. “She knows it’s going to be loud so she’s thinking that either she’ll have him wear noise-canceling headphones for babies, or her family, many of which are also coming, will enjoy the show from a skybox or some type of club seating,” the source claimed.

Has Rihanna said anything else about her 2023 halftime show?

Even the mega-famous superstar couldn’t help but gush a bit about the opportunity. “The Super Bowl is one of the biggest stages in the world. It’s an entertainer’s dream to be on a stage like that,” she told Entertainment Tonight. “But it’s nerve-racking. You want to get it right. You know, everybody’s watching. And they’re rooting for you. And I want to get it right.”

Rihanna dubbed it a “now or never” moment, adding, “Nothing would have gotten me out of the house if it wasn’t a challenge like that.…You could get real comfortable being at home as a mom, [so this is] challenging myself to do something that I’ve never done before in my career. I have to live up to that challenge.”

P.S. She’s turned down the opportunity before

In case ya didn’t already know, the singer previously turned down the chance to headline the Super Bowl halftime show back in 2019. The reason? She wanted to stand in solidarity with former 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick. “I just couldn’t be a sellout. I couldn’t be an enabler. There’s things within that organization that I do not agree with at all, and I was not about to go and be of service to them in any way,” she confessed to Vogue during a cover story interview she did in October that year.

Since that year’s Super Bowl, the NFL has entered into a partnership with Jay-Z and Roc Nation to “enhance the NFL’s live game experiences and to amplify the league’s social justice efforts.” “With its global reach, the National Football League has the platform and opportunity to inspire change across the country,” Jay-Z said in a press release at the time. “Roc Nation has shown that entertainment and enacting change are not mutually exclusive ideas—instead, we unify them. This partnership is an opportunity to strengthen the fabric of communities across America.”
