All the Details on Julia Garner’s Husband, Mark Foster

Major congrats are in order for Julia Garner, who landed Golden Globe nominations for her performance in Ozark and Inventing Anna.

The actress, who already has three Emmy wins under her belt, is also known for her work on The Americans, Netflix's Maniac and the true-crime series, Dirty John. Not to mention, her upcoming role as Madonna in the singer's highly-anticipated biopic. But as it turns out, the actress has been balancing her successful career with her marriage. And we want to know, who is Julia Garner's husband? Keep reading for answers.

1. Who is Julia Garner’s husband?

Garner is happily married to Mark Foster, the lead singer of the indie pop band, Foster the People. You might be familiar with their most popular hit, "Pumped Up Kicks," which is a song about gun violence that Foster wrote in just eight hours.

In 2019, he told Billboard, "It’s been interesting to watch the lifespan of that song. The fact that it took off in the first place was something that I never predicted would happen."

He continued, "What’s interesting about it to me was, topically, [the song] struck a chord and resonated with people, which is why the song became what it did. But it took people a while to really let the lyrics get into their bones, and I think that once the lyrics got under their skin, it was a bit of a slap in the face. And I think some people were embarrassed that they didn’t realize it in the beginning—that they had been dancing to it. But I also want to say that 10 years ago when I wrote it, it was a warning. That’s where it was coming from for me."

2. Is it true that he collaborated with Taylor Swift?

Yes! Back in 2012, while speaking with Fuse, Foster opened up about the time they worked on a song together. When asked about his lunch meeting with the pop star, he said, "We actually wrote a song that day, it's a really cool song. And we kind of just went into it casually, like, 'Yeah, let's just jam and just like have fun,' and something really cool came out of it."

He added, "It was a lot of fun working with her, she's super talented."

In 2021, Swift also released a song they collaborated on, called "Forever Winter (Taylor's Version) (From The Vault)", as part of her album Red (Taylor's Version).

On Twitter, Foster wrote, "Can’t wait for you all to hear it. I’m so proud to be a part of this record. not only because @taylorswift13 is one of our generation's most prolific and talented artists, but also because this album is trailblazing a new way for artists to own their masters. #RedTaylorsVersion"

3. How did Garner and Foster meet?

Garner met her partner-in-crime at the Sundance Film Festival in January 2013. And while they bonded over their families being from the same city, they didn’t exchange contact information or stay in touch. That changed, however, when Foster found Garner on Instagram a few years later.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Garner explained that Foster started liking a bunch of her photos. She said, “I was like, ‘Who’s this guy Liking all my photos? Is this a stalker?’ I clicked on him, and I was like, ‘Oh, Mark. Oh, he’s cute. I’m going to follow him back.’ Then he DM’d me.”

4. When did they get married?

Foster popped the big question to his future wife in April 2019, while they were on a cross-country trip to Montana. By then, the pair had been dating for ten months and, according to Garner, the whole experience was "surreal and beautiful."

She told Vogue, “Both of us had a few weeks of quiet before I had to leave for Atlanta to start shooting season three of Ozark, so we rented an RV and took a road trip up to Montana to get away from the city and just be together.”

Then, one morning, when Garner and Foster went for a walk by Flathead Lake, she got quite the surprise. She continued, “He read me a poem he had written to me, and when he finished, he dropped to a knee and asked me to marry him.”

The couple held an intimate ceremony in December, 2019 at the New York City Hall. And according to Garner, her husband surprised her with an original song that he wrote for their first dance, called "Lovers in a Stream."

She told Vogue, "It was a surprise. Mark wrote, produced, and sang it. It was very surreal, and the most beautiful present I've ever received."

5. Do they have any kids?

As of now, the married couple don't share any children, and neither have spoken out about whether they intend to start a family. Still, the pair's relationship is going strong after three years of marriage.

Here's hoping that Julia and Mark treat us to more cute couple pics on their social feeds this year.
