New design details approved for Nissan Stadium: ‘ Everybody has a better seat'

A wide, wraparound, porch-style upper concourse with views of downtown will serve as the front door to the Tennessee Titans new Nissan Stadium.

New design details were approved Thursday by Metro Sports Authority as the process of building a 60,000-seat NFL stadium steams ahead.

"A stellar design team was assembled, composed of hundreds of professionals across 24 firms," Titans Senior Vice President Adolpho Birch said. "Nine are Nashville companies and 11 are certified Disadvantage Business Enterprises."

The final designs will be approved in October.

The vision remains true to the original designs with neutral, earthy tones throughout the building and expansive views. Wood paneling and dark tones accent massive glass windows, offering the grand lobby a warm feel — despite its massive scale.

A circular, transparent roof will enclose the field and provide soft lighting throughout.

"You guys are sitting on top of a really great design that I think will shine not just in Nashville but around the world," said lead architect David Manica. "These are nice white concourses with incredible views."

Two giant video boards will flank the field. Seats will be as much as 50 feet closer to gameday action than those at the current Nissan Stadium. Big, round bars, patios, 360-degree field views and stages for live performances are throughout.

Manica said designers concentrated on creating great energy inside the building for games and concerts.

Seats will be surrounded by lounge areas and marketplaces.

"Everybody has a better seat in the new stadium than the old stadium. That will create intimacy and excitement," Manica said. "We've taken the time to make the interiors feel very Nashville."

Sports Authority officials praised the designs.

"The video deserves a 'wow,'" said board member Aaron McGee. "It looks good, looks like Nashville, and it feels good. I got a kick out of seeing areas for artists to perform, that's so Nashville."
