The design of this Canada house for sale is odd, very odd indeed. Check it out

Screen grab from Zillow

Unusual designs aren’t uncommon in the world of architecture, especially in modern day. More and more artists are experimenting with the bold and the new, so it really shouldn’t be shocking to see houses like this hidden Canada jewel.

The three-bedroom, three-bathroom residence, named “Hill House” (while it’s not named after the terrifying “The Haunting of Hill House,” it is located on the chillingly named “Hell Point Rd”) is listed for $3.1 million in Nova Scotia.

Considered an “oceanfront sanctuary,” the 2,968-square-foot home was built by award-winning architect Brian MacKay-Lyons and has a look that appears way ahead of its time despite the residence being built in 2003.

“Live in peace and tranquility, protected and secluded amongst nature. Encompassing 19.75 acres of coastal conifer forests, open fields, walking trails and breathtaking oceanfront,” the listing on Zillow.com says. “Minimalism and style is prevalent both inside and out. Thoughtfully positioned, the home takes full advantage of the home’s highest elevation welcoming all the benefits of solar passive energy.”

Features of the property include:

  • Hemlock wood ceilings

  • Modern front patio

  • In-floor heat

  • Open concept floorplan

  • Soapstone countertops

  • Fireplace

  • Wet bar

  • Two-level guest house

  • Finished barn

“Hill House can serve as your mecca for opportunities,” the listing notes. “Not often does an opportunity arise to own an international award winning home, often called the ‘Grand Dame’ of the exclusive community of Kingsburg, [Nova Scotia].”

The home caught the attention of Zillow Gone Wild, a popular Facebook page and Twitter account that highlights intriguing houses for sale all around the world. Fans appeared both obsessed and perplexed by the design — as the angular property is split in two between the main house and guest quarters.

Ikea called. They didn’t mean for their concepts to be taken this far,” one person joked.

“There needs to be a covered breezeway between the 2 structures and also be in a location where I wouldn’t freeze solid, but I love the design!” another said.

“That’s a James Bond safe house if I’ve ever seen one,” someone compared.

“I can’t live in anything called Hill House because of Netflix,” one person said.

“The best part about this is that you could roller skate through this whole house,” another joked.

“Ugh, I want this to have a pool… or a pond… or a moat. So rad,” someone observed.

This is GORGEOUS…” one person tweeted.

“And after I rent *Hill house*, I think I’ll do a winter turn at the hotel from ‘The Shining,’” another joked.

World’s most divorced house,” someone noted.
