Deshaun Watson Has Only Waived His No-Trade Clause For 1 NFL Team

Earlier this week, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell revealed why Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson hasn’t been placed on the commissioner’s exempt list.

According to Goodell, the police investigation into Watson is ongoing. Therefore, the NFL doesn’t have access to enough information to make an official decision on Watson just yet.

“Obviously, the police have been investigating also. We don’t have all the access to that information at this point in time,” Goodell said. “… We pride ourselves in that and being as cooperative as we can to make sure we get all of the facts. I think that process is still ongoing.”

With that in mind, NFL teams might be more willing to trade for Watson. If they know he won’t be punished until the investigation is over, there is a chance he plays the rest of the 2021 season.

Earlier this morning, the NFL Network reported the Carolina Panthers removed themselves from the Watson discussion. Shortly after that report broke, ESPN’s David Newton reported Watson has only waived his no-trade clause for one team: the Miami Dolphins.

Earlier in the week, John McClain of the Houston Chronicle reported Watson chose not to waive his no-trade for the Philadelphia Eagles.

Despite the Panthers and Eagles showing interest in recent months, both appear to be out of the mix.

That leaves just the Dolphins, who have been the frontrunner since Watson trade rumors first started. However, it’s still unclear if Miami and Houston will be able to come to a deal.

The NFL’s trade deadline expires in less than a week on November 2.
