Derry man seriously injured in Sunday night home explosion

May 6—A Derry man was seriously injured in an explosion at a burning home on Chases Grove Road over the weekend, fire officials said.

Derry firefighters responded to 607 Chases Grove Road, a 784-square-foot manufactured home, at 7:40 p.m. Sunday for a report of an explosion and fire, Derry Fire Department officials said in a news release.

When crews arrived, they found the home half engulfed in flames, Derry Fire Battalion Chief Ryan Bump said.

A man, whose name wasn't immediately released, had already been pulled from the home by bystanders when firefighters arrive, officials said. He was taken to a local hospital with "serious, potentially life-threatening injuries," fire officials said.

"Due to the seriousness of injuries and the complexity of the scene, the N.H. State Fire Marshal's Office was consulted and responded to assist Derry fire investigators with determining the cause and origin of the fire," Battalion Chief Bump said in a news release.

Firefighters from a dozen communities responded to the blaze, which took crews nearly an hour to knock down, Bump said. The fire was declared under control at 8:35 p.m.

Fire crews from Salem and Londonderry also responded, along with Hampstead, Plaistow, Atkinson, Windham, Hudson, Manchester, Nashua, Auburn and Chester. Derry police and the Derry Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) also responded.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
