Denis Leary to Headline Army Comedy Going Dutch Ordered at Fox

Fox is in business with Denis Leary once again.

The network has ordered to series Going Dutch, a single-camera comedy that the Rescue Me actor will star in and executive-produce, TVLine has learned.

Going Dutch will follow an arrogant, loudmouth U.S. Army colonel (played by Leary), who, after an epically unfiltered rant, is reassigned to the Netherlands, where he is punished with a command position at the least important army base in the world.

“After serving with distinction in every war zone of the last three decades, he now finds himself in charge of a base with no guns, no weapons, and no tactical purpose,” the official logline describes. “Instead, it has a Michelin-star level commissary, top notch bowling alley, and the best (and only) fromagerie in the U.S. Army. Surrounded by a diverse group of underdogs, the colonel tries to reinstall military discipline and professionalism with the help of the base’s previous interim leader, who just happens to be his estranged daughter,” who has yet to be cast.

Going Dutch hails from Joel Church-Cooper, who previously created IFC’s Brockmire. He’ll serve as showrunner and will exec-produce with Leary and his son, Jack. As indicated on Fox’s newly revealed 2024-25 schedule, Going Dutch will debut at midseason.

“I don’t think The Netherlands have ever seen such a collection of loud, selfish, screwed-up Americans. And it’s all Fox’s fault,” Leary joked in a statement on Monday.

“We are thrilled to be back in business with Denis Leary,” added Fox President Michael Thorn. “Going Dutch captures Denis’s comic genius and in-your-face storytelling style. Denis, Jack and our showrunner and creator Joel have brilliantly envisioned this original, offbeat take and inherently funny salute to the military workplace comedy. We also believe their show is the perfect comedy companion to our hit Animal Control.”

Leary previously teamed up with Fox for the comedy series The Moodys, which also starred Elizabeth Perkins, Francois Arnaud, Chelsea Frei and Jay Baruchel. It was cancelled in June 2021 after two seasons.
