It's the final adventure for Indiana Jones and fans have been wondering whether he'll have some old friends for company.

Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny sees Harrison Ford play Indy for the last time as the iconic character hangs up his leather jacket and fedora – but not before one final globe-trotting journey in search of an all-powerful artefact.

The end of Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull saw Indy finally settle down and marry Marion Ravenwood, with Karen Allen reprising the role for the first time since Raiders of the Lost Ark.

Ahead of Dial of Destiny's release, Allen was tight-lipped on whether she'd appear, saying: "I could tell you, but then I'd have to kill you."

Now that Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny is out in cinemas, we feel safe that Allen won't come after us for revealing the truth. Be warned there are spoilers ahead, but here's whether Indiana Jones 5 features Marion.

Is Marion in Indiana Jones 5?

For the majority of Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, it appears as though Karen Allen won't appear as Marion, beyond a photograph that Indy keeps on his fridge.

It's revealed early on that in the time since Crystal Skull, Indy and Marion have sadly separated and are in the process of a divorce as of June 1969. Their marriage fell apart as a result of the death of their son Mutt (Shia LaBeouf's character from Crystal Skull), with the two unable to survive their shared loss.

Once Indy's latest adventure is all wrapped up though, via an unexpected trip to the Siege of Syracuse in 214BC, he's surprised at his apartment by the arrival of Marion. Helena (Phoebe Waller-Bridge) called her, and Marion appears to be ready to get back together with Indy.

"Are you back, Indy?" she asks him, a reference to whether he's come to terms with the heartbreaking loss of his son. His time-travelling quest appears to have helped Indy confront what he was trying to ignore, and the pair recreate the kiss scene from Raiders, only this time Marion telling Indy where it hurts.

It's a brief return for Karen Allen, but it's more than Ke Huy Quan gets, as Short Round doesn't make an appearance, despite fans' hopes that he would.

“We looked at all these different things, but the first thing we were trying to do was assemble a story that made sense in the present, meaning in the 1969 section of the movie," writer/director James Mangold explained of Short Round's absence.

"But we looked at all these different things and tried to figure out how they would work. I just didn't want another adult along for the ride."

The only other character to return from the original series is John Rhys-Davies as Sallah, who we knew was in the movie from the trailers. Sallah has a brief scene in New York after the Moon Day set piece, and is then seen at Indy's apartment at the end with his grandchildren.

And yes, it is odd that we've got a white Welsh actor playing an Egyptian character in 2023, but Sallah's return is purely fan service so it's unlikely they'd have recast him. (Perhaps they could have just left Sallah out of the movie though...)
