Urban Meyer has received glowing reviews from his players and other members of the football coaching community since taking over the Jacksonville Jaguars this offseason. The latest compliment came from NFL Hall of Famer Deion Sanders.

The Jackson State head coach spoke warmly of Meyer recently, calling him a certified “winner.” He also complimented the moves that the Jaguars leader made this offseason and the people that he surrounded himself with on his staff.

“Urban Meyer’s a winner. He’s a winner,” Sanders said late last week, per 247Sports. “I feel like he has a good staff, has a pretty darn good quarterback. He’s going to have some hiccups. … But he has the opportunity.

“Urban Meyer’s a winner, man. I like his staff that he assembled. I know the type of ball that he’s going to play. They did really well in the draft. We’re going to see if that pays dividends.”

Sanders also expressed his desire to see how No. 1 overall pick Trevor Lawrence adapts to playing for the Jaguars, where the situation he has around him won’t be as refined as it was at Clemson.

“But I like the young kid (Lawrence),” Sanders continued. “I just want to see how the young kid handles adversity. I don’t think he’s ever been up against adversity. And I guarantee you in Jacksonville he’s going to have some adversity.”

Already, Meyer has reached some major milestones in his first season as an NFL head coach. He made it through free agency, the 2021 draft, and team minicamp all after filling out his staff with a group of competent and experienced assistants.

The Jaguars head coach will now have to turn his attention to training camp and the preseason. With just over two months to go until the start of the 2021 campaign, Meyer will want to have all of his ducks in a row headed into his NFL coaching debut.
