Deion Sanders trying to flip Derby recruit Dylan Edwards from Notre Dame to Colorado

Dylan Edwards has something new to think about when it comes to college football recruiting.

Even though the Derby senior long ago committed to play running back at Notre Dame, one of the most high-profile coaches in the country wants him to consider enrolling elsewhere.

Deion Sanders offered Edwards a scholarship at Colorado shortly after the Buffaloes lured him away from Jackson State over the weekend. Edwards thought enough of the opportunity to publicly share the news on social media Tuesday morning.

“Blessed to receive an offer from the University of Colorado,” Edwards wrote on Twitter.

That could throw another interesting twist into the way Edwards finishes up the recruiting process.

Edwards is regarded as a four-star recruit after rushing for 1,764 yards and scored 33 touchdowns for the Derby Panthers this season.

Sanders, who famously played baseball and football at the professional level before getting into coaching, began recruiting Edwards last spring and offered him a scholarship at Jackson State. Edwards seriously considered the option but ultimately committed to K-State over Nebraska and Oklahoma during a public ceremony at his high school.

But Edwards re-examined his options a few weeks later when Notre Dame entered the picture. Over the summer, he announced on social media that the Fighting Irish had offered him a scholarship. Then he took a recruiting visit to see campus and announced his intentions to play for Notre Dame rather than K-State.

Colorado is coming off a dreadful 1-11 season, while Notre Dame is heading to the Gator Bowl to play South Carolina after going 8-4. But Sanders has serious pull in the recruiting world.

It will be interesting to see how seriously Edwards considers Colorado and “Coach Prime” as an option even though he remains committed to Notre Dame as early signing day approaches.
