Deion Sanders’ Son, Shedeur, Signs Historic Deal
NIL opportunities continue to be a driving force for recruits committing to play for Deion Sanders. And on Thursday morning, Coach Prime’s son Shedeur got to reap some of the benefits of playing under his dad’s Jackson State program.
According to reports from Front Office Sports, the Tigers’ quarterback has signed an NIL deal with Gatorade — making him the first HBCU athlete in history to sign with the iconic brand. He’s also just the second collegiate athlete to sign an NIL deal with Gatorade — following UCONN women’s basketball superstar Paige Bueckers.
Shedeur Sanders, 19, will join Gatorade with multi-year contract that aims to “drive national exposure of HBCU programs and athletes.”
“Being the first HBCU athlete to sign an NIL deal with Gatorade — that’s legendary,” he said in a promotional video. “I’m honored to represent this brand… The work has just begun.”
At age 19, Shedeur Sanders will join Gatorade in a multi-year partnership, aiming to drive national exposure of HBCU programs and athletes.

Deion Sanders has long been a proponent of providing collegiate athletes with NIL opportunities, so it’s only fitting his son signs one of the biggest deals in HBCU history. Last year, Coach Prime teamed up with SMAC Entertainment to help “level the playing field” by providing NIL deals to HBCU athletes.
After Deion Sanders agreed to take his head coaching job with Jackson State in 2020, Shedeur flipped his commitment from Florida Atlantic to join the Tigers’ program.
In his first season, the former four-star recruit helped lead his team to a SWAC Championship. Along the way, he earned FCS Freshman of the Year honors and became the first-ever HBCU athlete to win a Jerry Rice award.
