Deion Sanders: Aaron Rodgers, Russell Wilson Are ‘Trippin’ After Tom Brady’s Super Bowl
The last few years have seen pretty unprecedented veteran quarterback movement. In 2020, Tom Brady left the New England Patriots for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last March, and won a Super Bowl. This offseason we saw Matthew Stafford swapped for Jared Goff in a blockbuster Los Angeles Rams-Detroit Lions deal, and stars Aaron Rodgers, Deshaun Watson, and for a time, Russell Wilson rattled their sabers about being traded from their franchises.
NFL legend Deion Sanders thinks Brady’s big move has spurred on this whole era. He thinks guys like Rodgers and Wilson, who have one Super Bowl a piece, were whipped into “a frenzy” seeing Brady cruise to a seventh Super Bowl win in year one with his new team.
“OK, so, Aaron was trippin’. My guy there in Seattle, Russell, was trippin’. OK, my guy in Houston definitely was trippin’.” Sanders said on NFL Total Access last week, via 247.
“OK, so, what is it with these quarterbacks? It seems like when you give them 35 million and over, they start trippin’. You’ve got everything you want and you still aren’t satisfied. I understand that we could all say, ‘Well, they don’t give him what he wants down in Green Bay.’ Well, you’ve been 13-3 for the last two seasons. You’ve got to be getting something right. They’re doing something profound.
“I hope it works out because he’s great for the game. I love who he is on the field. I love what he brings to the table. I think he’ll still go down in history as one of the best to ever play. But I think when Tom Brady — not I think, I know — when Tom Brady won the last championship, all quarterbacks went into a frenzy,” Deion posits.
“They just start trippin’. I mean, it’s unbelievable. And you can fault Tom for that. Tom is so dominant that every other quarterback gets insecure about what they have in house. And Tom Brady has never tripped.”
It is an interesting theory, for sure. Aaron Rodgers had a front seat for Brady’s run last year, falling in a dramatic NFC Championship Game to those upstart Bucs.
None of those players will ever admit that Tom Brady’s totally unprecedented success is the reason that they want to change their situations—Rodgers, in particular, has a laundry list of issues with the Green Bay Packers leadership going back years now—but the fact that we got to the bottom of the “can Tom Brady win without Bill Belichick” debate last year probably doesn’t help matters.
