The Chiefs are missing a key member of their defensive line rotation in Week 16.

Defensive tackle Khalen Saunders (illness) is among the Chiefs’ six inactive players for Saturday’s noon game against the Seattle Seahawks at GEHA Stadium at Arrowhead Stadium.

Saunders missed all three days of practice the past week and entered the weekend designated as doubtful on the injury report.

His absence will be felt. The fourth-year pro emerged this season — a contract year — as an effective rotational player. He’s totaled career-high numbers in games played (14), tackles (43), sacks (2.5) and defensive snaps (350).

The Chiefs on Friday elevated defensive tackle Danny Shelton to the 53-player roster. Shelton provides depth behind interior defenders Chris Jones, Derrick Nnadi and Brandon Williams.

Tight end Blake Bell, whom the Chiefs on Saturday activated from injured reserve, is available for his first game this season.

Defensive end Mike Danna (illness) and safety Deon Bush (illness) are active after entering the weekend as questionable on the injury report.

The remaining inactive Chiefs players are quarterback Shane Buechele, tackle Geron Christian, rookie offensive lineman Darian Kinnard, defensive end Joshua Kaindoh and defensive lineman Malik Herring.

For the Seahawks, wide receiver Tyler Lockett (hand), safety Ryan Neal (knee), defensive lineman Al Woods (Achilles), cornerback Artie Burns, running back Wayne Gallman Jr., tackle Jake Curhan and defensive tackle Daviyon Nixon won’t play against the Chiefs.
