Defense attorneys open new Hagerstown practice

Longtime local attorneys Brian Hutchison and Mikhaila Mc Nicolls have opened a new law practice in downtown Hagerstown focusing on criminal defense cases.

Hutchison & Mc Nicolls LLC, at 82 W. Washington St., Suite 402, in the Bryan Centre, opened on Jan. 2.

The law practice covers all types of criminal cases, including major felonies, traffic and juvenile cases, across Washington County.

Hutchison was awarded Trial Attorney of the Year multiple times from the state and defense, according to the firm's website at www.hmulaw.com. In practice for 36 years, Hutchison has served as a prosecutor, private defense attorney and public defender, including being a former District Public Defender for Washington and Frederick counties.

Mc Nicolls was a longtime public defender and has served as a private defense attorney. She graduated from Howard University and also earned her juris doctorate from Howard. Among the organizations to which she contributes time are Hagerstown Pro Bono clinics, the website states.

Downtown Chambersburg Inc. promotes new businesses

A cafe and a clothing boutique opened their doors last year in downtown Chambersburg, according to Downtown Chambersburg Inc.

Golden Juniper Boutique, 23 N. Main St., specializes in sustainable women’s fashion, offering timeless, high-quality pieces that highlight femininity.

The shop started as an online retailer in September 2021. The storefront's grand opening in August 2023 also marked the business' second year.

“(One thing I cherish about Golden Juniper) are the relationships I’ve built here,” owner Ruth Chupp said in a news release. “The thing that stands out to me the most is the welcoming community. I love how (DCI) collaborates with small businesses and supports local.”

Customers may browse Golden Juniper’s storefront or their website at goldenjuniperboutique.com.

The menu at The Oasis Cafe, 21 N. Main St., includes milkshakes, rolled ice cream, mini pancakes, breakfast sandwiches, bagels and specialty drinks.

Owners Biondis Marmol and Vianelys Rentas began the business by producing fresh juice blends to ship locally. The storefront opened in July.

In addition to in-person service, the cafe offers delivery through GrubHub and DoorDash.

Restaurant owner joins WellSpan Health board

Monica Mata Campos, owner of Veroni Café, recently joined the WellSpan Health West Region Board of Directors. Her role with the health system became effective Jan. 1.

“Monica is deeply engaged in the thriving Chambersburg community and has her finger on the pulse of what we need to continue to support our west region as a whole,” said Niki Hinckle, senior vice president for the west region of WellSpan Health. “Our board is focused on delivering high-quality, affordable care in new and expanded ways and I know this important work is in the right hands with these leaders guiding that effort.”

The West Region Board guides WellSpan Chambersburg, WellSpan Gettysburg and WellSpan Waynesboro Hospitals in addition to other WellSpan facilities across Adams, Cumberland and Franklin Counties, as well as the Hanover area in York County.

Campos, originally from Oregon, moved to Franklin County nearly a decade ago, opening her café soon after. She is active with the Greater Chambersburg Chamber of Commerce. Campos contributes to numerous local initiatives as a self-described “community enthusiast,” who appreciates the value of fostering connections to make a positive impact.
