At least 4 killed as military aircraft crashes in California: report

A military aircraft crashed in California on Wednesday, reportedly killing at least four people.

The crash occurred in Imperial County near state Highway 78 outside Glamis on Wednesday afternoon. Naval Air Facility El Centro refuted a report that nuclear material was on board the aircraft, but did not confirm any casualties.

The Los Angeles Times reported at least four people were killed in the crash, near the California-Arizona border. Rescuers were searching for a fifth person believed to be on the aircraft.

The military arrived on the scene shortly before 2 p.m. local time, according to iHeartMedia.

The plane belonged to the 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing, which is based out of San Diego’s Marine Corps Air Station Miramar.

Naval Air Facility El Centro, which sits about 10 miles north of the Mexican border and 85 miles east of San Diego, said Installation Federal Fire and Imperial County Fire Department responded.

This is a developing story.
