Death investigation underway in weekend shooting fatality in Macon, sheriff reports

The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death of a man fatally shot Saturday.

Cortavius Hassan Ates, 25, died from gunshot wounds after being discovered by officials near Jeffersonville Road and Roseview Drive in Macon.

The Macon-Bibb E-911 Center received a call at approximately 5 p.m., reporting shots fired in the area.

Deputies responded to the scene where they discovered Ates, unresponsive with a gunshot wound. Ates was later pronounced deceased at the scene by Deputy Coroner Lonnie Miley.

No further details were given and there is no suspect information at this time.
