‘Deadliest Catch’ deckhand Mahlon Reyes dead at 38

A beloved cast member of the reality series “Deadliest Catch” has suddenly died.

Mahlon Reyes, a deckhand who appeared on the Cape Caution and Seabrooke on the Discovery Channel program, suffered a massive heart attack in his hometown of Whitefish, Mont., on July 25, Reyes’ wife, Heather Sullivan, told TMZ.

He was 38 years old.

Despite being transported to a hospital, Reyes never regained consciousness, said Sullivan. The following day, he was taken off life-support.

His family was unaware of any preexisting health conditions that could have caused the heart attack, and the county’s sheriff’s office will file an official cause of death once an autopsy and toxicology screening are performed, according to TMZ.

Reyes, who appeared on 14 episodes of the series dating back from 2012, according to IMDb, was reportedly recovering from a torn Achilles tendon suffered while crabbing and hoped to return to Alaska for another crab season.

On July 30, fellow “Deadliest Catch” crew member Nick McGlashan posted a group photo on Twitter that included Reyes.

“Family times. Laughing, crying and remembering our brother Mahlon Reyes of the Summer Bay,” read the caption.

Sullivan said Reyes was cremated and that his boat crew members will spread some of his ashes in the Bering Sea.
