DC superheroes and villains are coming to Exploration Place

A bit of Gotham City and a few other superhero settings have come to the Air Capital for the summer.

The traveling exhibition “DC Superheroes: Discover Your Superpowers” featuring superheroes and villains most of us have grown up with is opening at Exploration Place on Friday, May 24, and will run through Sunday, Sept. 22.

Geared toward families with kids under 12, the exhibition has various immersive elements, such as racing The Flash, balancing on sea turtles like Aquaman, finding the mutant orchid created by Poison Ivy, and learning to lasso like Wonder Woman.

“I just know our families are going to love this exhibit,” said Adam Smith, Exploration Place’s president and CEO in a release announcing the exhibition. “This is the best traveling exhibit I have seen in quite some time. The interactive elements are strong, and the characters are iconic.”

Even the settings are iconic, with several scenarios set in Gotham City, where the Joker has sabotaged the bat signal, the Riddler is trying to break into a bank and Catwoman is going after some bling in a jewelry store.

The exhibition has inspired some other summer programming at Exploration Place, including three overnight stays called Superhero Sleepovers scheduled for June 8, July 20 and Aug. 3. Tickets for the sleepovers are $55 per person, with discounts for members, and include dinner, snacks and breakfast and watching the “DC League of Super-Pets” movie in the Dome.

“DC Superheroes” was produced by the Children’s Museum of Indianapolis.
