New DC Comics: Celebrating Black History Month And Power Girl

With February just ahead of us, DC has revealed its latest comic book lineup for readers. The new DC comics of the week include some new issues for iconic characters like Batman and Superman, but fans of DC’s alternate universe heroes are also in for a treat.

DC is celebrating its Black characters from all across its universe this week with DC Power 2024 #1 ahead of Black History Month. The new comic will include an epilogue to the long-running Far Sector storyline, detailing the first meeting between Jo Mullein and John Stewart’s Green Lantern. Val-Zod fans also get a new story featuring the Man of Steel contemplating the balance between his pacifist philosophy and his duties as Earth’s protector. The comic will also feature other notable Black DC heroes like The Signal, Crispus Allen, Anissa Pierce and Raphael Arce. If you’re looking for some crossover action, look no further than Nubia’s team-up with Mr Mxyzptlk.

Power Girl fans can also look forward to the Earth-2 hero’s return to the DC universe with Power Girl: Uncovered #1. The new comic is illustrated by Frank Cho, Sozomaika, Warren Louw, Guillem March, Babs Tarr, Rahzzah, and many others. But what about the story, you ask? Well, we’re asking ourselves the same thing, because this one has no plot. No, seriously. Those looking to immerse themselves in a new Power Girl story will have to settle for gorgeous covers and nothing else with this one.

Elsewhere, Alan Scott's Green Lantern has learned the Red Lantern's secret in the fourth issue of his series, while Batman takes the fight to the War Storm in Batman: Off-World #3. Of course, if you're just looking for a good old-fashioned Batman/Superman team-up, the World's Finest Annual #1 will have you covered. The new annual continues Metamorpho's story after the Elementary arc, and Batman recruits the Challengers of the Unknown for a secret mission.
