Daytona 500 weather: Will NASCAR be able to race on Monday? Updated forecast

The NASCAR Cup Series will have to wait another day to begin the 2024 season.

The Daytona 500 was postponed on Sunday by a day, with NASCAR rescheduling the race for Monday afternoon. Rain fell throughout Saturday night and Sunday morning, and the radar and forecast are definitive throughout Sunday.

It's the third time since 2012 that NASCAR have had to reschedule its crown jewel race to be completed on Monday. Saturday's Xfinity Series race at Daytona was also postponed to Monday and will be run before the Daytona 500.

Now the attention turns to Monday's forecast in Daytona Beach.

Daytona 500 weather forecast for Monday

It looks very promising for a clearer Monday.

The National Weather Service calls for a 20% chance of rain on Monday in Daytona Beach, but those chances come before lunch time. As of 10 a.m. CT Sunday, there is a minimal (7%) chance of rain at the newly scheduled green flag time on Monday. There's a chance fans will get to see blue skies as the sun sets late in the race as the weather system clears the area.

The forecasted high temperature is 63 degrees, with temperatures dropping to the 50s by the evening.

Has the Daytona 500 been rescheduled or postponed?

Yes. NASCAR rescheduled the Daytona 500 to Monday, not even waiting to see out a definitive forecast for rain throughout Sunday morning and afternoon. The decision was made before 10 a.m. ET Sunday, hours before the original green flag start time.

The new start time is scheduled for just after 4 p.m. ET/3 p.m. CT on Monday, with TV coverage set for FOX.
