What day is the Indy 500? What happens at Indianapolis Motor Speedway before the race begins

The 2024 Indianapolis 500 is scheduled for Sunday, May 26. Scott McLaughlin won the pole position and will lead the 33-car field to the green flag.

Jordin Sparks, Tamika Catchings and Ken Griffey Jr. are scheduled to be part of pre-race fun, and don't forget about the Indy 500 traditions.

Here's what will happen on the track.

6 a.m. ET: Public gates open

7 a.m.: Snake Pit gates open

8:15 a.m.: Snake Pit concert begins

9-9:20 a.m.: Cars to pit road

8:45-10:10 a.m.: Borg-Warner Trophy march to the bricks from the IMS Museum

10:25 a.m.: Purdue band plays "On the Banks of the Wabash"

10:30 a.m.: Cars to grid on front stretch

11:47 a.m.: Driver introductions

12:21 p.m.: "God Bless America," Philip Phillips

12:24 p.m.: National anthem, sung by Jordin Sparks

12:36 p.m.: "Back Home Again in Indiana," sung by (Jim Cornelison)

12:38 p.m.: Command to start engines, Roger Penske

12:45 p.m.: Green flag
