David Mitchell has addressed the possibility that Peep Show could return for a special in a new update.

The cult classic Channel 4 sitcom first premiered exactly 20 years ago, when fans were first introduced to flatmates Mark (Mitchell) and Jez (Robert Webb) and their cringe-inducingly awful antics.

Appearing on tonight's (September 29) The Graham Norton Show, Mitchell was asked about the possibility of a special… though the star sadly dashed any hopes in his response.

“No, we are not organising an event," he said. "I am very proud of it, but having made it so long ago it reminds me of my own mortality!”

During the interview, the actor also spoke about his new book Unruly, which takes a look at the history of English royalty.

“I love history and I love kings and queens," he admitted. "I am particularly interested in the a-holes in crowns that did dreadful things that really weren’t very funny at the time, but because they happened so long ago, we can now laugh at them.”

Peep Show came to an end back in 2015 after 12 years on air and nine series, though Mitchell and Webb have since worked together again on Channel 4 comedy Back, which ran for two series on Channel 4.

Speaking in 2017 about the possibility of bringing Peep Show back, Mitchell told NME he would "love to work with [co-creators] Sam [Bain] and Jesse [Armstrong] again".

"I think they would be interested to write those characters again but basically at the other end of their lives when they're 50 odd or even older," he added.

The Graham Norton Show will return tonight (Friday, September 29) at 10.40pm on BBC One.
