Davante Adams charged with assault in shoving of photo crew member at Chiefs game
Las Vegas Raiders’ wide receiver Davante Adams was charged in Kansas City municipal court Wednesday morning with one count of assault for allegedly shoving and injuring a freelancer for ESPN after the Chiefs victory, according to court records.
The charge, a misdemeanor, alleges that Adams “did, by intentional, overt act, inflict injury or cause an unlawful offensive contact upon (the freelancer) by pushing (the freelancer) to the ground using two hands causing whiplash and head ache, possible minor concussion,” according to court documents.
The next court date for the 29-year-old Adams was set for 1:30 p.m. on Nov. 10.
The victim, who was originally identified by police as a photographer but appeared to be carrying equipment at the time of the incident, filed a police report alleging that he was injured when Adams shoved him following the Kansas City Chiefs victory on Monday night, police said.
The freelancer made his own arrangements to be taken to a hospital for treatment at which time he called police. ESPN reported Tuesday that the freelancer was working the for network’s Monday Night Football and was credentialed to be on the field.
Adams was captured on live television pushing the freelancer, who fell to the ground, as Adams was headed to the locker room.
After the game, Adams apologized for the incident.
“There was some guy running off the field and he ran and jumped in front of me. We were coming off the field and I bumped into him and kind of pushed him, and he ended up on the ground.
“I would like to say I’m sorry to him for that,” Adams continued. “That was just frustration mixed with running and literally running in front of me. I shouldn’t have responded that way but that’s how I, initially, responded so I want to apologize to him for that.”
Adams also later apologized on Twitter, saying he felt “horrible immediately.”
