A Missouri state representative shared on social media that his daughter and son-in-law were attacked and killed by a gang in Haiti Thursday night.

Ben Baker (R-Neosho) said on Facebook that his daughter Natalie Lloyd and son-in-law Davy Lloyd were working as full time missionaries in Haiti.

“My heart is broken into a thousand pieces,” Baker said. “I’ve never felt this kind of pain.”

Haiti has historically been crippled with violent gang activity and large attacks have ensued since the announcement of its new prime minister at the end of April. Gangs have laid siege to several neighborhoods, burned homes and exchanged gunfire with police, the Associated Press reported earlier this month.

Missions in Haiti Inc. posted on its Facebook page calling for “urgent prayer” a few hours before making another post about Natalie and Davy Lloyd’s deaths. The organization said Davy Lloyd, 23, and Natalie Lloyd, 21, had been shot and killed by a gang around 9 p.m. Thursday.

David Lloyd, Davy’s father, said in an interview with the Miami Herald that Jude Montis, a Haitian director of their nonprofit, was also killed.

The three were reportedly killed by armed gunmen who targeted Missions In Hope, a nonprofit that runs a school for children, and has a children’s home and commercial bakery, the Herald reported. Exact details of what happened are still not clear Friday.

As Natalie and Davy Lloyd were coming out of church with several youths, armed gang members ambushed them, according to a Missions in Haiti Facebook post. The gang members looted the house as they tied Davy Lloyd up and beat him, the post said.

Davy Lloyd was trying to contact his dad when the three were shot and their bodies were set on fire, The Herald reported.

“They went to Heaven together,” Baker said. “Please pray for my family, we desperately need strength. And please pray for the Lloyd family as well.”

Baker declined additional comment in a text to The Star, saying that he would not be doing any interviews until he confirms that “their bodies are safe at the embassy.”

Several Missouri statewide officials have commented on the deaths and shown support for the Baker and Lloyd families.

“Absolutely heartbreaking news,” said Missouri Gov. Mike Parson on X, formerly Twitter. “Teresa and I extend our deepest condolences to (Rep. Ben Baker) and Naomi and their family. We pray for Natalie and Davy’s loved ones and that God bring them strength during this most difficult time.”

Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey and Missouri Secretary of State Jay Ashcroft also extended condolences.

“His daughter and son-in-law… left a legacy of compassion and service that will never be forgotten,” Bailey said on his X account. “May their dedicated work for the people of Haiti always be remembered.”

“Katie and I are praying for our friends during this difficult time,” Ashcroft said on X. “We are absolutely heartbroken for (Ben Baker) and (Naomi).”
