Darius Rucker arrested on misdemeanor drug charges in Franklin

Country music star and former Hootie and the Blowfish frontman Darius Rucker was booked Thursday in a Williamson County jail on misdemeanor drug possession charges, a spokesperson with the Williamson County Sheriff confirmed.

The musician was charged with two counts of simple possession and casual exchange and one count of violation of registration law following an arrest in Franklin.

Rucker was released Thursday after posting $10,500 bond.

Rucker's attorney, Mark Puryear of Puryear, Newman & Morton, said Rucker is fully cooperating with authorities related to the charges.

'Just a kid from South Carolina ...' topping charts and earning honors

In October, the chart-topping musician who has sold 150 million records worldwide released his latest album, "Carolyn's Boy," with co-writers including HARDY and Ed Sheeran.

Days before "Carolyn's Boy" was released, Rucker was inducted into the Music City Walk of Fame.

Rucker, 57, was moved to tears as former 16-time world heavyweight wrestling champion Ric Flair inducted one of the top ten best-selling pop album artists of all time.

The wrestling legend said Rucker was a "second-to-none musician" and "one of the greatest human beings we've all ever been gifted to know."

"I'm just a kid from South Carolina who got lucky twice, so I'm shocked and humbled that I'm here," Rucker said during his speech. "I do this for everyone who wants to hear me play music."
