Danny Dyer's Channel 4 series Scared of the Dark has been axed after just one season.

The reality series aired last year and involved a group of celebrities – including Love Island's Chloe Burrows and Strictly Come Dancing's Max George and Nicola Adams – living together in complete darkness for a week.

The show, which was won by former footballer Paul Gascoigne, saw the group take part in daily tasks and challenges while adapting to their new surroundings.

But now Deadline has reported that Scared of the Dark, which was hosted by the former EastEnders actor, has not been recommissioned by the channel for a second season.

Back when the series was airing last year, Dyer said of the show: "I think that it's really simple, and there's just something really funny about watching people walking around in the dark banging their shins on things.

"[It's] so clever and a really good mix of celebrities. And it's a very emotional show."

This cancellation comes as Tempting Fortune – another new reality format for Channel 4 last year – has been renewed for a bumper second season with more episodes than the first.

Former Top Gear host Paddy McGuinness presents the show, which follows a group of contestants on a gruelling trek across the wilderness with a shared prize fund waiting for them at the finish line.

Along the way, there are a host of luxury items to tempt the contestants – but they come at a cost, with the overall prize fund reduced every time someone takes a temptation.

McGuinness said of Tempting Fortune's return: "Last series was full of backstabbing, betrayal and sheer determination… but this time there are added twists!

"I'm so excited to be back for an even bigger series, putting a new set of brave, daring and cunning contestants into the hot sticky jungle to see whether anyone can make it to the end without taking my temptations."

Scared of the Dark and Tempting Fortune are available to watch now on Channel 4's streaming service.
