Danielle Brooks Weighs in on Possible ‘Orange Is the New Black’ Reunion

Back in high school, I was the biggest (and I mean biggest) fan of the Netflix original series, Orange Is the New Black. So, when I was given the opportunity to do a one-on-one interview with OITNB alum Danielle Brooks, I knew the first question I wanted to ask her.

As a Pampers advocate, The Color Purple actress recently sat down with PureWow to discuss the “Love the Change” event for the new Pampers Swaddlers 360 and shared whether or not she would be open to a possible Orange Is the New Black reunion.

Based on Piper Kerman’s memoir, Orange Is the New Black: My Year in a Women's Prison, Orange Is the New Black is a comedy/drama series that chronicles the time Kerman served in a federal women’s prison after smuggling drug money for her then-girlfriend back in 1993.

For seven seasons, Brooks played the role of Tasha “Taystee” Jefferson. By the end of the show, Taystee is forced to serve a lifelong prison sentence after being wrongfully convicted of murdering Correction Officer Desi Piscatella (played by Brad William Henke).

When I asked Brooks if she would be up for an Orange Is the New Black reunion, the 34-year-old actress shared that she’d be “over the moon” if she was allowed to see her former castmates once again. “It would be really cool to do [a reunion],” she said.

While acknowledging Taystee’s unfortunate fate, Brooks shared that she would love to see what happened to the rest of the OITNB characters. “Maybe a ten-year catch-up or a twenty-year kind of spin-off or a limited series or something [along those lines]. I would be down to do it,” the actress added.

While discussing the Pampers “Love the Change” event, Brooks (who is the proud mother of a four-year-old daughter) shared why it “just made sense” for her to partner with the diaper brand ahead of Mother’s Day.

“First of all, it was really great to connect with other mothers. I think that’s always great to have a community, share our stories [and to let others] know that we’re not alone in raising our children,” the Peacemaker star revealed. “[Also], we use Pampers in my home [and] they’ve gotten us through a lot of days without mess, so it just felt like a good collaboration. It felt like a good thing for me to do.”
