'Dangerous' old workshop in Bulwell to make way for new block of flats

A building that has stood in a Nottingham town for a century-and-a-half is to be demolished after falling into disrepair.

The two-storey brick building, in Main Street, Bulwell, is originally thought to have been a workshop and stables.

But the property, which dates back to 1875, will make way for a block of 12 flats after Nottingham City Council approved plans.

Developer Grant Redfern said it had become "potentially dangerous".

Several cracks have appeared in the brickwork, and the site attracts anti-social behaviour and vandalism, planning documents say.

Nottingham City Council has now approved a new, three-storey block in its place, says the Local Democracy Reporting Service.

The design will take inspiration from the old building, with a gable roof and red bricks.

But developers must first carry out a survey on the plan's impact on nearby water voles living in the River Leen.
