Dan Quinn, coach with Salisbury University ties, selected to lead Washington Commanders

Former Salisbury University football player Dan Quinn has been selected to be the new head coach of the Washington Commanders, according to multiple NFL reporters.

The Salisbury University alum returns to a head coaching position after serving as the defensive coordinator of the Dallas Cowboys for the last three seasons.

Quinn played football for the Sea Gulls from 1989-93 as a defensive lineman, tallying over 145 tackles during his college career. The former Sea Gull was also on the track team, and held the university's hammer throw record until 2012.

Prior to his time as the Cowboys' defensive coordinator, Quinn was the head coach of the Atlanta Falcons for six seasons, leading them to an appearance in Super Bowl LI. Quinn was also the defensive coordinator for the Seattle Seahawks during the 2013 and 2014 seasons, leading the Seahawks' defense to back-to-back Super Bowl appearances, winning the first one in Super Bowl XLVIII, and just narrowly losing Super Bowl XLIX.
