Before he got hurt last year, Dak Prescott was on pace to have an absolutely ridiculous season according to the numbers. The Dallas Cowboys quarterback was on the way to setting nearly every single-season passing record in franchise history.

Of course, that didn’t happen, as Prescott suffered a devastating season-ending injury in a win over the New York Giants in early October.

However, Prescott admitted today that he really doesn’t want to be putting up ridiculous passing numbers. When he’s doing that, it means the Cowboys aren’t running the ball well. It could also mean that the Cowboys are losing or playing in a high-scoring game.

“I don’t want to throw for 6,000 yards, to be honest with you. That means we’re not running the ball, that means we’re probably not doing the things we need to do to be a balanced, winning team,” Prescott admitted to reporters today.

Cowboys fans are loving the level-headed response from their franchise quarterback.

Prescott is currently dealing with a shoulder injury, though he said today that he would be ready to play if the season opened on Sunday.

Instead, the Cowboys are able to give their starting quarterback as much rest as he needs.

Dallas is scheduled to open the regular season on Thursday, Sept. 9 against Tampa Bay.
