What’s at the center of the Venn Diagram between internet book clubs and bohemian concert goers? Daisy Jones & the Six. The fan favorite novel from author Taylor Jenkins Reid, of The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo and Malibu Rising fame, has gotten the miniseries treatment, to the celebration of many.
The series, like the book, follows a fictional ‘70s rock band through their rise in the music industry, complete with the traditional trappings – drugs, sex, betrayal, and fringe. As the story goes, the fictional band splits at the height of their success, leaving behind a legacy larger than their discography. The novel, unique in its form, is composed solely of quotes—no paragraphs and no dialogues. Just quote after quote from various players in the band and the LA music scene, which together tell the story of the greatest band in the world. Taking this form to the screen, the series is a faux-documentary, featuring interviews with band members that build out a story a la E! True Hollywood Story.
As the story goes, solo artist and party girl Daisy Jones joins forces with lowkey rock band The Six to create one of the greatest albums of all time. Many, including the novel’s own author, have drawn comparisons between this fictional world and the very real lore of Fleetwood Mac, but alas, this is all fiction. Wink.
The series stars Riley Keough as the eponymous Daisy Jones, bringing her rock and roll legacy to the screen as the granddaughter of Elvis Presley. Keough stars alongside The Hunger Games’ Sam Claflin as leading man Billy Dunne, Suki Waterhouse as pianist Karen Sirko, and Camila Morrone as Camila Dunne. The series is executive produced by Reese Witherspoon’s production company Hello Sunshine (alongside others), which has become an official stamp of approval for viewers and readers alike.
How can I watch ‘Daisy Jones & the Six?’
Daisy Jones & the Six is streaming on Amazon Prime Video. The new series will consist of ten episodes, the first three available to stream starting March 3, episodes four through six dropping on March 10, episodes seven and eight dropping on March 17, and the final two installments dropping on March 24.
Each episode is track titled, starting with “Track 1: Come and Get It” and ending with “Track 10: Rock N Roll Suicide.”
