Dad Reacts After Kate Middleton Sees His 8-Year-Old Standing Alone and Strikes Up a Conversation
Journalist and former Olympian Matthew Syed would've never expected his 8-year-old son to strike up a random conversation with the Duchess of Cambridge while en route to the Commonwealth Games. And yet, that's exactly what happened.
It all started when he asked his son, Ted, to wait in the first class car of the train as he used the restroom. Just moments after he stepped inside, he heard a woman initiate a conversation with his son. She said, “Are you here alone?”
Apparently, Kate Middleton noticed Ted standing alone and immediately approached him to keep him company. And according to Syed's account, which he included in his article for The Times, it sounded like they were having "a whale of a time."
Assuming that the mystery woman was just a friendly passerby, Syed made his way out and thanked her. But the journalist got the surprise of a lifetime and "nearly fell over" when he saw that it was Middleton who chatted with his son.
"I am stopped in my tracks," he wrote in his article. "'Kate?' I blurt out. There are no security guards in the vestibule, no armed guards. But here is the Duchess of Cambridge, chatting merrily with my son."
As they walked away, Syed asked his son if he knew who he was talking to. Ted's response? “No idea, but she was really nice.”
Syed noted that the sweet encounter was a testament to Middleton's welcoming personality. He explained, "The duchess had no idea she was chatting to the son of a journalist, so I take this to reflect her character and sense of duty. The monarchy is in consummate hands."
But this wasn't the only time the mother of three showed that her maternal instincts are sharper than ever. Her parenting moves were on full display with Princess Charlotte during the 2022 Commonwealth Games. Body language expert Darren Stanton observed both Middleton and Prince William during the event, and he noted that their behavior "demonstrates the kind of parents they intend to be both at home and during their official duties."
He told PureWow, “Throughout their appearance, Kate Middleton and Prince William are seen with their bodies turned inwards towards Charlotte, with the youngster in between them—demonstrating how she is their main priority and their children come first.”
Kudos to Middleton for being in mom mode, even when traveling.
